Trial by Fire; The Future of Bar & Bat Mitzvahs

One of the things that I have enjoyed most as a Jewish educator is working with youth in preparing for Bar or Bat Mitzvahs.  It is exciting to establish relationships with these young minds and lead them on an experiential journey they will never forget.  It can be challenging, but incredibly rewarding to do something that most of them have never done before.

However, this topic personally is a truly deep concern.  How do we inspire unmotivated youth and engage them into the community?

Once a week, the dean of my school offers an open Q&A – where we as aspiring rabbis are able to ask any questions we have about Judaism today.  Without notes or books, Rabbi Artson comes loaded with information, ready to share for whomever is listening.  Today, I got to ask my question.

To jump ahead and hear about Bar/Bat Mitzvahs – scroll forward to 21:17  (the whole podcast is great, too!)

Stay tuned! More to come…

B’ahava (With Love).
